Usually, cats are clean animals but sometimes they get into things they are not expected to. It's a myth about cats that they hate water but it's not true. sometimes, it's true but most of the cats love and enjoy the water. If you intend to give bathe to your cat, get every relative thing (e.g. shampoo, brush, towel, etc.) ready in advance. If possible, also have a family member with you to help you because bathing can be done in a better way by two persons instead of one.
Best Shampoo for Cat Bathe
Cat-friendly, tear-less especially the herbal pet shampoos are good for normal/routine bathing. Shampoos of various brands are available but prefer herbal ones as these are less harmful to cat eyes, skin, and fur. If your cat has any skin problem, bathing with a medicated shampoo is the best option. Most of the medicated shampoos act as a conditioner, shampoo, and a treatment source/medicine for various skin problems.
Some cats offer much resistance during bathing but you should remain calm and try to handle your cat calmly.
Water Temperature for Cat Bathing
The temperature of the water should be suitable according to the season. It should be lukewarm in winter slightly cold in summer. Very hot or very cold water can cause discomfort for your cat. Very hot water can burn your cat's skin.

Wet your cat's skin thoroughly and gently rub the shampoo into the fur. Then wash your cat's whole body and rinse it thoroughly with the help of water. Ensure that shampoo isn't left on the cat's fur as it may cause irritation and force your cat to scratch his/her skin.
While washing the head region, fold the ear flaps to prevent water from entering the ear canal.
After rinsing is complete, wrap your cat in a clean and warm towel. You can also blow-dry your cat but try to keep the blower at some distance from the cat's skin. Brush/comb it once his/her fur is dried completely.
Precautions while bathing your cat
-Don't rush the bathing process; do it calmly to avoid giving any stress to your cat.
-Keep talking in a calm voice to your cat throughout the bathing process. It will prove helpful in keeping your cat calm.
-Before bathing, ensure trimming your cat nails as you may get scratched during the bathing process if your cat offers some resistance.
-Avoid using human shampoos as their composition is suitable only for human skin and hairs and can prove dangerous for cat skin and fur.
-Avoid applying shampoo on the face as it may travel into the eyes and cause irritation. Wash and clean the head region with water only.
Important Tips for Cat bathing
-Introduce your cat to bathing from small age as it will help in making him/her willing to bathe.
-Brush your cat before bathing also. It will prove helpful in cleaning the fur properly.
-After the bathing is complete, offer a reward to your cat in the form of a treat. It will help your cat to behave well during bathing in the future.
-After the treat, play with your cat for a while. It will improve the cat's behavior and she will offer much resistance during bathing in the future.
-Bathing your cat once in 4-6 weeks is okay but the duration is dependant on the cat's age and breed as well. |
